I have a vague memory of saying that I wasn't particularly bothered with summery colours in my last wishlist post where I showcased a palette of greys, blues and tans translated onto floaty fabrics and summery prints... well I lied.
I always do that. I get comfortable in my Autumn/Winter colours and when the summer clothes first start coming out I'm still in that mindset, but then a few weeks go by and my eyes start wandering to the brights and pastels and before you know it my wishlist looks like a fight at a fruit factory. This season I'm particularly drawn to fluro shades, which are those weird pastelly-neons that are cropping up. I love how they look as Accessories paired with whites, washed out denim, simple makeup and hair scraped into a messy bun, I think they're fun, inoffensive and really flattering.
I also just have to include this book as well. I absolutely love Terry Pratchett, his Discworld books especially are a joy to read, wonderfully written with brilliant characters and just so much fun. So imagine my delight when I was browsing through Waterstones and found these amazing special editions! I have a serious soft spot for beautifully covered books and just couldn't resist. Straight away I bought Good Omens (which he wrote with Neil Gaiman) and this one, Mort, is next on my list followed by several others... A long row of these have already materialised on the fantasy section of my future dream bookshelf.
Let me know if you like anything from this list and what's been on your wishlist recently!
Okay so it's not getting warmer... at all... but that isn't stopping me looking ahead for when I can finally cast off the thermals and chunky boots and slip into something lighter and more fun. Even in summer, though, I'm not one for bright obnoxious colour palettes a lot of the time. I like keeping my beloved palette of greys, blues and tans but in floaty fabrics and pretty prints. These two dresses are both from a brand called Staring At Stars sold at Urban Outfitters and it may be becoming my favourite label. A lot of their pieces are in a style I can only really describe as 'Bohemian Baby - Goth' which just about sums up what I'm looking for in a summer wardrobe this year!
The bag, sandals and sunnies are all pieces that can be slung on with just about any outfit, which makes things like packing for a summer holiday or festival a million times easier. They're in shades that are easy to pair up and are interesting enough as stand along pieces but won't fight for attention within a coordinate.
Also featured is My Cousin Rachel by Daphne Du Maurier, one of my literary idols. I really want to read more of her work and have found the most gorgeous editions of some of her most critically acclaimed novels. For anyone looking to expand their literary horizons from YA or Chick - lit into something deeper and more substantial I would highly suggest a bit of Du Maurier. I'm looking forward to the Summer holidays when I no longer have Uni required reading or assessments to be worrying about and can sit down and read books I want to enjoy, at my own pace.
Let me know what you've been wishing for, aside from maybe better weather if you're in the UK!
I'm back at University! And that means more hoisting myself out of bed at 7:30am and trekking the half an hour to lectures... ugh the things I do for career prospects. Jumpers, comfy jeans and boots are essentially my uniform of choice for lectures, I'll never understand the people who really dress up, heels, fancy dresses the lot, just to sit in a hall and be talked to a for an hour, but at the same time I really don't like the idea of turning up looking a mess so that combination for me is the perfect balance of comfy and well put together and a colour palette of blues, greys and browns is hard to go wrong by. The bag is lovely as well, pretty and big enough to shove all my gear in. Particularly if I need to take my enormous Norton Shakespeare Anthology with me.
I will be honest. If I'm at home, I am in my pyjamas. Quite frankly if you don't get home and immediately change into jammies or 'lounge wear' there is something wrong with you. As such I have an alarmingly large collection of pyjamas and this little set from Elle Macpherson just caught my eye, it is £110 so I think it will exist only in my mental wardrobe (it can go just next to all the Christian Louboutins) but I love the mix of silky luxurious nightwear and cozy snuggly socks and am always on the hunt for more.
Let me know what's on your wishlist at the moment! Thankyou for reading.

It's autumn! Well. Sortof.
It's still pretty warm here in the UK but I'm not naive enough to think that this is going to last much longer, so it's time to start a spot of back to school shopping! I've already got a nice stash of sharpie pens, folders and writing paper as well as all my reading list for next year. But Back To School stuff doesn't just mean stationary, though it is one of my favourite things to buy! There's also the lovely snuggly new AW clothes that I can tramp to lectures in. I like to be nice and comfy in lectures, but not feel like I can't go for a coffee with my lecture buddies straight after, so I like to pair my simple, slouchy winter staples with a statement piece that turns the look from 'student who just rolled out of bed' into a put together outfit.
The above of course shows the more interesting pieces, that can be put with things you already have in your wardrobe to update it for the season! The amazing print jumper can be put with skinnies, black is fine but wine, navy and deep green are all colours that would look amazing and much more 'together', rolled up a little with ankle boots or other comfy shoes thrown on to complete the look. The skirt works in the same way, but with tops. I personally think it would look amazing with a loose, chunky sweater in any rich, warm colour you have knocking around, but could also look nice with a tee tucked in with the belt added and a leather jacket over the top for something more fancy, tights and ankle boots or simple court heels would tie the whole thing together beautifully.
My final piece is the denim dress, which can be worn day or night. I can traipse to lectures with a huge slouchy cardi, tights and boots and, if the lecture hall is too hot (even in winter that can happen) I don't have to sit and cook for an hour! Then for an evening look, lose the cardi, don the necklace, some chunky heels and fancy patterned tights if it's very chilly outside and bam, sorted! The bag is more interesting than your standard black/brown but would go with anything, and the nail polish isn't a quintessentially autumn colour, however I love a little contrast in my outfits and this muted pistachio colour is perfect to offset the blacks, blues and greys I'm usually wearing in the winter and add some interest. Plus it's called Venus Flytrap. How adorable is that!? *squee*

For the first time in a long while chunky, chunky shoes are out of the limelight and sleek minimal heels are sneaking into our wardrobes. I really love the look of these, They're a refreshing change from the huge platforms, lita - styles and crazy 90's flatforms and instead are sophisticated and flattering, complementing an outfit rather than fighting for attention. (Exactly the words I used to describe my pastel polishes funnily) I've wanted to own a pair for a long time but they are quite pricey, River Island has a gorgeous selection, a few of which I definitely want but they'll set you back £45.00 a pair! Topshop's various offerings cost up to about eighty quid!
These two pairs I actually picked up while following my mum round Marks and Spencers! Normally I just drag round behind her until she's done and we can go look in Topshop but as I wandered through the shoe section there caught my eye and I found these two pairs along with another pair in a lovely shell pink colour.
Both pairs sell for £25.00 each and the mint coloured ones were reduced to £15.00 so I decided I could justify taking both pairs home. I'm going on holiday soon and will definitely be taking at least one of these pairs for evenings. (Actually my mum loves the silver pair so I think she'll pack those, I'll pack the mint and we'll just share them) Both look beautiful with pretty white sundresses as well as more tight fitted evening wear. Also it gives you a chance to show off your perfectly manicured toes! I would still love a pair (
Have you tried the barely there heels trend? Where do you think does the nicest pairs?
The perfume, Sartorial by Penhaligon's is actually a men's fragrance but after seeing this review on Youtube (if you're at all interested in perfume you have to sub to Katie Puckrik, she's just brilliant) I gave it a sniff and I fell in love. It starts out fresh and clean and gets all warm and musky and just smells charming and not fusty or 'blokey' at all. The link above isn't to the actual fragrance, but to a £1.50 sample which I'm going to buy a few of, as the £58 for the 50ML bottle isn't really something I can justify right now. maybe I'll ask for it as part of my birthday in September...
What do you think of my wishlist? Anything you've been lusting after recently?
I've recently started collecting more jewellery, I'm not sure where the sudden obsession came from, I never really used to wear much but in the last few months my collection has probably doubled in size! So since I now own enough to actually have favourites I thought I'd share a few of my most loved pieces.
The bird skull necklace from LoveHeartsandCrosses is a perfect example of my jewellery tastes. I love wearing pretty girly outfits and adding a tough edge with quirky, striking accessories and there's nothing like having a pointy bird skull dangling in front of your floral sundress! The little ring* is from Timothy Roe is a stunning little addition to my ring collection and looks adorable next to my more masculine pieces as well as stacked with other small delicate rings.
Bracelets are probably what I've collected most of, I'm very late on the stacking bracelets bandwagon but I've jumped on with all my might! Both of these are from New Look and again the spikes and tiger faces add that little bit of interest to my outfits which I love. In fact I loved the tiger face bracelets so much that I actually bought two of them! So should one ever start to break or unravel I have another one to fall back on. I have a lot more bracelets so maybe I'll do an independent post on those.
Finally another undeniable jewellery trend, turquoise. Again I have quite a lot of turquoise pieces but these are my favourite. The bracelet is from LoveHeartsandCrosses and the necklace is from New Look. I tend to use both these pieces layered with other things as turquoise is a very complementary colour and looks good paired with a variety of shades. The bracelet in particular looks amazing whether it's part of a symphony of pastels or the pop of colour in a silver and monochrome coordinate.
Let me know your favourite places to find jewellery! I need to feed my addiction!

I wanted to share with you guys my current favourite footwear. Ankle booties! I know we've all been wearing them now for a few years but I've lived in the safe zone of Chelsea boots and the standard black/brown/tan ankle boots. Now I'm beginning to explore the world of ankle boots and making them an interesting part of an outfit rather than just a throw-on-when-i-cant-be-bothered choice.
The black pair are from daisystreet.co.uk and are vaguely reminiscent of the Topshop Alvin boots that everyone went crazy for a while back. They're like kick-ass gothic-cowgirl boots! I actually call these my 'The Walking Dead' boots because I feel like if I were in that show, killing zombies in the deep south cowboy territory that is Georgia this is what I'd have on my feet. (anyone else watch it? How great was the Season 3 finale!??)
The pink pair are another slightly western inspired pair (I promise I'm not turning into a very stylish John Wayne I do have other pairs... these are just my favourites...) I bought these from New Look a while back and can't find them on the site anymore but they may well still be knocking about in stores. These look adorable with denim skirts and slouchy Tshirts and sweaters and fall into my favourite summer colour palette: The pastels!
I like wearing both of these pairs with cute girly ankle socks. My faves are these and these both from Topshop, I feel like it makes the ankle boot very modern. I love the contrast between cutesy ankle socks and the rock-n-roll, tomboy feel of the black pair, they also stop the pink pair from being too 'sexy cowgirl costume'.
Let me know what you think! What shoes are you wearing now that summer's around the corner?

I know I know, I should still be looking at parkas and jumpers but I just can't help myself!
I'm not quite as frilly, girly, pastel - obsessed it would seem this summer. I'm drawn towards things that are, yes feminine, but in a more subtle, grown up way. God help me I might actually be growing up.
The pieces here are quite interchangeable and it all works quite nicely in a 'capsule wardrobe' sort of way. The accessories and shoes go nicely with both the dress and top-and-skirt. I also think the pop of bright lip would tie each look together beautifully, and the hat would just add that effortlessly chic touch. DO you have any thoughts on what you'll be wearing once it warms up a bit?
An open letter to summer 2013:
Dear summer, hi,
HURRY THE HELL UP PLEASE!
Yours, Bella.

If you're in the UK then you've probably experienced at least a little snow in the last week. It's getting on my nerves. It's definitely March isn't? I haven't had some sort of horrific memory lapse and now we're in winter again have I? Despite the depressing weather I haven't let it get me down and I'm still slowly stocking up for an amazing summer to come. I've decided I want to at least have a go at self tanning this year as opposed to staying my usual paley-pale self all year round, I'm starting gently though, minimizing the risk of cheesy wotsit legs.
These sunglasses are by John Galliano. I found them in TK MAXX for about £45 which I thought was pricey but really liked them, then a quick google search later I find out these babies are worth over £500! Not bad if I do say so myself! #bargainhunter.
I'm also using the summer as an excuse to add to my nail polish collection. I've bought Coral by Barry M and Lucky Lucky Lavender by OPI. Both gorgeous shades, though as it's reverted back to winter a little bit I may need to buy more AW polishes! What a shame right?
Are you still in the mood for summer? What have you been buying recently?

I haven't made a friendship bracelet in years! But as I said one of my 2013 goals was to get more creative, even in small ways like cobbling together a handmade bracelet. I'm still proud of it mind, and the process was quite meditative and soothing. The DP bracelets were part of a large set of gold and pink stacking bracelets. I've lost a few already but i think it was about ten for £16 which wasn't too bad! I know it's still winter but like I said in my last post I'm buzzing for the warmer weather and have already started slipping in the odd pastel shade. Can you tell?

I admit it. I'm completely bored with autumn/winter. I've had just about enough of living in grey and burgundy and trying to wrestle my coat off without removing my hoodie in lectures. Spring to me signifies a fresh start and I always feel much happier and more positive when the sun's shining and everyone's dressed in colours. I've been collecting little bits here and there, magpie fashion, for when things eventually perk up.
Anyway I just wanted to show a little collage I made out of various fashion magazines in my journal. (Yes I have a journal #sad) It's a great way to get in the mood for spring and to get ideas for colour coordination and mixing and matching key pieces which, when you're on a student budget is a necessity!

I rarely ever buy anything from Miss Selfridge. I'm not sure why but it's a brand I've always neglected. However I really think their SS13 evening wear is gorgeous! It might be a bit strange but I'm loving the slightly lingerie-esque feel to these dresses. The sheer black fabrics and sexy lacy bits give it a really seductive feel, and then adding some tough glamazonian shoes and jewellery gives a beautiful contrast without it looking cluttered or too 'try-hard'.
Everything here, aside from the shoes which are from New Look, can be found on the Miss Selfridge site. Just add some big sexy tousled hair with clean, simple makeup for a look that toes the line between 'classy, glamorous lady' and 'just rolled out of the bedroom.' It would be very easy for this style to look like you've actually stepped out in your undies, but I think the way Miss Selfridge has designed them keeps it very elegant with just a little tongue-in-cheek suggestion of sexiness.

Long time no see! Feels like forever since I've been away though it's only been not quite three months. (Still a long time let's face it.) I'm back from university on Christmas break and didn't actually plan to start blogging again just yet but I found myself perusing the spring previews on some of my favourite fashion sites and really loving what I've been seeing so I thought I'd share some of the bits I've already got my eye on.
This is 'casual edition'. There are a few different combinations here all of which I'd wear for a day out shopping or a lovely summer pub lunch. I think this spring is going to be much more understated. A little bit of a 50/60's nod and a lot of gorgeous muted hues and classic shapes. I'm actually excited to wriggle out of my spiky jumpers and creepers for a bit if I'm honest and feel a touch more ladylike.
The three pieces down the centre and the flats on the bottom are from River Island and the navy wedges are from New Look. Everything else, surprisingly, comes from Primark! So that means I can actually stock up my summer wardrobe without bringing my bank balance to tears!
I'll be doing a few more of these: The dressed up edition, the beauty edition and maybe the holiday edition. If you have any other suggestions or things you'd like to see please don't hesitate to ask.
I'm really excited to be back. I'll do a catch up post at some point, you'll probably notice my blog going through (yet another) makeover at the moment. It's not quite finished but it'll be lovely when it is. I've decided to drop 'Maisy', a name that I made to protect my teenage identity and start going by my real name, Isabelle. Now that I'm twenty, I find the idea of sharing a small portion of my life on the internet far less daunting. Hopefully nobody minds. :)
